Most of the forums on this site are being converted into Nabble's News format (as opposed to their forum format). This allows the topics view to be largely unnecessary and has some other benefits. A few forums (such as the one for links, and the support forums) are remaining in the forum form...read more

HymnWiki.org is a large project that pre-dates GrowSpice™ by about twelve years. For a number of reasons, HymnWiki's old forum is being retired; the new one is part of GrowSpice™. The HymnWiki forum is primarily accessible via its subdomain, and via a link at HymnWiki.org. This merger may or m...read more

I finally got a sitemap set up and submitted it, and the atom feed, to Google. I also found out how to get a custom robots.txt file set up for a Nabble forum (you do it with NAML). Here's our robots.txt file: https://www.growspice.com/robots.txt Google made it easier to submit sitemaps. All ...read more

The forums have been renovated. The Work forum and all its sub-forums have been removed. The topics therein can just about all be discussed within the Plant forums. The Matter forum is now the Non-taxa forum (in order to encompass more things, such as light and energy). Some tags have s...read more

The cooking and recipes forums were unnecessary and redundant considering that the tags feature has been added. Use the cooking and recipe tags instead. An Element forum has been added for discussion of things that are not alive, nor necessarily from plants or animals, such as salt.

Nabble has kindly enabled https on our forum at my request. So, you don't need to worry about those security warnings anymore! It seems to work great. Even if you type http URLs, it forwards to https as I had hoped it would. (So, I don't have to redo any of the links, thankfully.)

You can now use the equivalent of hashtags, which I just call tags. You'll notice a Tag button when composing messages. Just use that on some text, and it'll insert code that makes it work like a hashtag. Don't remove the underscores, or it won't work. This is pretty exciting for me, especial...read more

I moved the lists of forums to the Links forum for easier access (and to reduce clutter in such as the Plant forum). I added lists of links for greens, herbs, and livestock. I've begun to implement my version of hashtags (which I just call tags). Nabble doesn't come with this functionality...read more

I've been organizing the forums more, both for the sake of education, and to make it easier to add more kinds of vegetable forums. For instance, there are now forums for some clades and several orders. So, they contain families and such, and this makes it easier to build the forum structure. Don...read more

Okay, the site has experienced some major changes lately. 1. The navigation links to forums at the top of the screen are now visible from all forums. 2. Some other links appear at the bottom of all screens. 3. Registered users must become Members in order to post. 4. Upon registering, user...read more

I'm planning to expand the sub-forums so that the structure is much as with our sister site . So, each spice will be categorized into a family, and there will be a pinned post with links to the individual spice forums (instead of a forum containing them all). Same for the fruit and nut forums. S...read more

I'm adding subdomains for at least some of the forums. So, for example, you can go to tomato.growspice.com instead of typing the full URL: http://www.growspice.com/Tomato-f13.html This is very exciting news, since it means the forums you really care about can be much more accessible (and you ...read more

Because the Tomato forum receives so many posts, I decided to make more sub-forums to make certain kinds of posts easier to separate from the others. The forum rules have changed.

I hope you all like the black background. I do, anyhow. Edit: It's been a standard white for a while now (with now being 23 Jan 2020).

This site is designed to be a companion site to (and to supplant) the following ProBoards forum: http://vegetables.boards.net If you're not particular about which site to use, please use the Nabble one. Should one site go down, the other will hopefully be available. If you miss the rece...read more
