Husky Red F1 offtype RL tomato (matriarchal parent?)

in Domestic Tomato
by Radishrain • | | 4 comments
Here another picture of what was supposed to be Husky Red F1. This is a fruit I harvested, seeded and ate today. I suspect this is rather actually a stable matriarchal parent of Husky Red F1, seeing as the foliage is not rugose (it is regular leaf). The foliage is stiff like rugose foliage, thou...read more

Polish Linguisa tomato

in Domestic Tomato
by Radishrain • | | 2 comments
I harvested the first Polish Linguisa tomato, today. It was over-ripe, but it was one of the best-tasting tomatoes this year, right up there with my two favorite Brandy Boy crosses and Marion! It smelled good before I cut it open, too. I saved the seeds for a trade. I'll have to save more for my...read more

Here's a post about my Corrales Azafrán safflower from earlier this year: http://vegetables.boards.net/thread/442/corrales-azafr-safflower My plants are starting to wind down for the season, by the look of it. They're falling over and I think the leaves are changing colors. I'm letting all...read more

Neapolitan pepper

in Annual Pepper
by Radishrain • | | 1 comment
I grew Neapolitan last year in containers. I'm growing it this year in the ground with a shredded wood mulch. It's doing better this year, and ripening faster. The first ripe fruit was a while ago. Here are some pictures of the fruits. I saved seeds from the three large ones in the bowl on 20...read more

Early Treat F1 tomato

in Domestic Tomato
by Radishrain • | | 1 comment
I harvested four ripe fruits of the Early Treat F1 tomato on 20 Aug 2019. They were the first on the plant. They were salad-sized with a normal salad tomato taste (maybe a little sweet). The skins were thick. The plant had eastern shade and a late start. I saved F2 seeds from these fruits. ...read more

Aunt Gertie's Gold

in Domestic Tomato
by Radishrain • | | 1 comment
My beloved Aunt Gertie's Gold fruit got blossom end rot. It got it heavily; so, I didn't taste the fruit. However, I was determined not to let it stop me (so, I saved seeds from it, just in case). There are other fruits forming. Hopefully they make it. I often wonder if seeds from BER fruits...read more

Black Vernissage

in Domestic Tomato
by Radishrain • | | 0 comments
Here are some Black Vernissage fruits. I saved seeds from them. The plant was stunted until other plants had already been big for a good while. However, it was the first tomato to sprout, I believe. I think a disease stunted it. I zapped the seeds (so, I'm curious to see how they perform next ti...read more

Big Boy F1 tomato

in Domestic Tomato
by Radishrain • | | 0 comments
Here are a couple Big Boy F1 tomatoes. I saved F2 seeds from them. The taste wasn't anything out of the norm, but the fruits were shaded by the plant itself and surrounding caged tomato plants. The taste wasn't bad, though. I think it would taste better with more sun. f1_hybrid_tomato ...read more

Noire de Crimée tomato

in Domestic Tomato
by Radishrain • | | 1 comment
I tasted some Noire de Crimée tomatoes with BER, on 3 Aug 2019. They were good, but the taste was a lot milder and more normal than I would have expected from what others say about it and Black Krim. Maybe the shade from the neighboring plants lesseed the flavor. There are ripe ones without B...read more

Black Beauty tomato

in Domestic Tomato
by Radishrain • | | 0 comments
Here are some Black Beauty fruits, this year. I'm not sure if this is a cross or not, since it has different growing conditions, this year. The definite cross showed no anthocyanin; so, that has me thinking this might be true-to-type. I grew it in 2017 where it waited until the end of the se...read more

Mustard Bhutlah with anthocyanin

in Chinese Pepper
by Radishrain • | | 4 comments
I'm growing two Mustard Bhutlah plants. One of them has black on its leaves and fruits. It started out having a lot of black, but soon a lot of the black dissipated. The stems and branches are black, except on the lower half of the plant. One of the fruits appears to be all black. I discovered t...read more

Lacto-fermented chile sauce

Here's a recipe I used, which I liked (it tastes awesome and is great on burritos in place of salsa): ~1 gallon of blended up raw peppers (mostly Jalapenos); I added a little filtered water to help blend them (but you might want to use some of the vinegar below instead) 3 cups of dis...read more

Vegetable omelet recipe

My mom makes very frittata-like omelets. We call them omelets, anyhow. I decided to try to make one today, for the first time. I don't know exactly how she does it, but I guessed to fill in the gaps, and I think I'm right, because it turned out well. Yes, I used ingredients my mom wouldn't have,...read more

I grew Matina in 2016 (from seeds from timeless-tomatoes.com), 2017 (from seeds saved in 2016), and 2019 (from seeds from timeless-tomatoes.com). In 2016, the plant was watered a lot. It was very early and prolific. Many people favored this tomato. It was mildly tangy. The plant was caged. It...read more

Wonderberry seeds

I saved a whole bunch of wonderberry seeds, today. I got about three herbal tea bags full. They were from less than a large strainer full of berries. I saved a single bag full ago this season, but I wanted a whole lot (so I can share them comfortably).
