The vice principal (and the principal) of Doug's school

Has anyone noticed that vice principal Lamar Bone on the Nickelodeon TV series called Doug looks and sounds a lot like Barney Fife on the Andy Griffith Show (played by Don Knotts)? I guess his head shape is different. Their personalities are probably pretty different, too. Interestingly, Mr. Bone plays somewhat of a policing role, too (policing the students, anyway). However, the actual voice actor for Mr. Bone is Doug Preis (but Don Knotts was alive when Doug was made).

Also, do we ever see the actual principal? I don't have any recollection of ever seeing one, but the vice principal is in most episodes.
